Today I went to the "Embsay and Bolton Abbey Steam Railway", a railway I used to go to every year. Here are some pics:

now, theres a story behind this engine. As a kid, every easter we came to this railway for 'Day out with Thomas' and this engine was Thomas, painted blue with red lining and a big number 1...today I went back to that railway for the first time in 9 years and was distraught to see what had happened to the Thomas I knew and loved, the railway stopped the Thomas events due to licensing fees and the engine has lost its lovely paint and has fallen into disrepair.

more tommorow!

I went to things like this as a kid. There was a Thomas where I went to. Don't know whether this'll be the same one that I saw (probably somewhere outside London). Such a shame. Nice to see that there are still a lot of steam trains running without a giant face on them. Never understood people's fascination with them, but I collect action figures, so what do I know?

I doubt it'd be the same engine. It was rebuilt as Thomas from one of Embsay's stock, also the railway is in Yorkshire so it'd be a long journey getting it there Razz

Anyway, here's some more pics:

On the 6th and 7th of September 1964, the Preston to Southport branchline was closed down by British Rail. 50 Years on, the Ribble Steam Railway (My local heritage railway, 5 mins in the car) hosted an event celebrating 50 years of the closure, here are my pictures:

The passenger train was the longest on the railway ever, 5 coaches, took up the whole platform:

I was also given track clearance to walk down the track away from the station, with a member of staff of course:

I should have a video up soon!
